Strategic Meeting: Enhancing Hajj Operations – HMA Keyamo and GACA President Address Critical Air Travel Issues

In the ongoing 15th International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Air Services Negotiation (ICAN 2023) event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, engaged in a crucial meeting with His Excellency, Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Duailj, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The meeting, attended by officials from the Aeronautical Authorities of both nations and representatives from airlines in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, addressed key issues related to the 2023 Hajj operations. The discussions encompassed:

I). *Performance of Nigerian Air Carriers during the 2023 Hajj operations:*
The meeting evaluated the performance of Nigerian Air Carriers during the 2023 Hajj operations, aiming for a comprehensive understanding of their contributions.

II). *Challenges of Hajj operations during the 2023 Hajj season:*
Identified challenges in the Hajj operations during the 2023 season were discussed, highlighting areas that require attention and improvement.

III). *Outstanding of Nigerian Air Carriers:*
The financial aspects and outstanding issues pertaining to Nigerian Air Carriers were thoroughly examined to ensure transparency and resolution.

IV). *Recommendations for 2024 Hajj season:*
The participants deliberated on recommendations for the upcoming 2024 Hajj season, emphasizing strategies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the operations.

V). *Preparation for 2024 Hajj season:*
The meeting concluded with detailed discussions on the preparations needed for the 2024 Hajj season, outlining steps to be taken by both countries to ensure a seamless experience for pilgrims.

In the spirit of collaboration, it was resolved that a joint committee comprising representatives from both countries would convene on a weekly basis. This committee’s primary objective is to facilitate ongoing communication, address any emerging issues promptly, and work towards achieving a successful and well-coordinated 2024 Hajj season.

The Honourable Minister expressed confidence in the collective efforts of the committee and emphasized the commitment of the Nigerian side to ensuring a flawless and seamless Hajj operation for the benefit of all pilgrims involved. The collaborative approach underscores the dedication of both nations to enhancing the air services in the context of religious pilgrimage.
