Last year, Moroccan pilgrims paid $6,117 as a fee to perform the pilgrimage to Hajj
Moroccan pilgrims who will perform Hajj pilgrimage in the 2024 season will pay MAD 66,865 or $6,729.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced the Hajj fees today in a statement, stressing that the cost does not include pocket money pilgrims should carry with them during their Hajj journey.
The ministry added that all citizens selected through the lottery to settle the Hajj fees for 2024 in a single payment at the Al Barid Bank agencies from January 22-31.
The period and location for settling the fees are the same for pilgrims supervised by the ministry and those supervised by travel agencies.
Individuals must present their national identity as well as a selection certificate proving that they have been selected as part of the Hajj lottery to perform Hajj in the coming season.
Last year, Moroccan pilgrims paid $6,117 to perform pilgrimage to Hajj in the 2023 season.
Morocco’s Islamic Minister, however, announced in November 2023, that the costs for the Hajj pilgrimage, excluding basic service rates, will witness an increase of MAD 3,200($312) in the coming 2024 Hajj season.
The ministry said that the increase in Hajj costs was determined following a meeting of the Royal Commission on Pilgrimage to review the preparatory campaign for the next season.
The Moroccan Commission recommended announcing pilgrimage fees for the next season to the public once the Saudi authorities determine basic service rates, the ministry said in a previous statement.
The statement emphasized that the confirmed increase covers airfare, some services, and taxes, excluding any potential changes to basic service rates on the Saudi side.
The quota for Moroccan pilgrims in the previous season was set at 34,000. In 2023, reports said that more than 1.8 million pilgrims from more than 150 countries performed Hajj last year.
